" James Oglethorpe on February 12, 1733, the Georgia colony that he
envisioned as a unique social welfare experiment. Administered by

Through Michael L. Thurmond years of research, he uncovers that Oglethorpe's evolution from slave trader to
abolitionist was possibly influenced by his relationships with two black men;
Ayuba Suleiman Diallo and Olaudah Equiano.
Dekalb County CEO, Michael L. Thurmond is a politician, attorney, author, historian, husband and father. His experience extends throughout his life from Paine College, the University of South Carolina School of Law, the Georgia General Assembly to the Labor Commissioner of Georgia and now the the Chief Executive Officer of DeKalb County, Georgia.
It was an enlightening surprise to learn about the Founder of Georgia - James Oglethorpe.
